so, when someone asks me what kind of music i like, i can't answer immediately because i get confused. to me, the choice of music is all about the influence. the combination of specific music influences i had in different points of my life is my choice of music.
i've been exposed to Tagore song since the day i was born. so naturally I developed strong emotional bonding with this genre. and Tagore songs make me nostalgic.
when i was a teenager, my influence was mostly metal, rock, classic rock, psychedelic rock etc. which helped me through some really tough times in my life and i am grateful to have listened to Pink Floyd, Metallica, Doors, Iron Maiden, Nirvana, GnR etc.
i developed a subtle liking for Hindustani classical, Karnataka classical and Hindi movie songs for a period of time as i had Indian music influence back in university.
but now, for years i haven't had any music influence. probably once a year one friend would share a music video on my wall which i wouldn't even click. and i think i finally get to choose my kind of music without any influence- and it is POP (pop punk, pop rock, pop rock alternative etc.).
i have always loved POP songs. loved Michael Jackson, Madonna, Spice Girls, Boyzone, Pink, Avril Lavigne and the list goes on. these days i like Sia, Adele, Ellie Goulding, Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga etc. but i was in denial. POP was never cool enough to go with my persona. today, i come out of the closet only with the consolation that- today's pop will be tomorrow's classic rock.
however, i'm ever thankful to my music influence because those are the music that shaped me.
